Here is a Signed and dated
1998 ELIZABETH GEISLER Free Style Artisan Hand Woven Natural Material Basket
.
The center has another piece of art incorporated within. There are DUCKS flying scratched into a disc material which is 3-1/8" across. It is signed, but too small to make out the artist. The total diameter of this basket is a little over 16". Many types of material were used. It still has the original tag on the back. Elizabeth was originally from Michigan, then Sarasota Florida, and she is one of the best known basketry makers of her time. She was
recognized as the original creator of the tapestry-woven Nantucket-style baskets. T
he Smithsonian also invited her to show her work at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. She passed away in September of 2006. Her original works are very hard to find and come by. Please see all photos.
