Very Rare 2 Page WWI German Death Card for an Older Decorated Soldier, Age 44,  Pictured With Rifle & All Accouterments, WHO DIED JUST 3 WEEKS BEFORE THE END OF THE WAR
DESCRIPTION:
Rare 2 page, WWI German death card for an older, decorated soldier shown wearing spike helmet and all accouterments, with rifle on shoulder, WHO DIED AT AGE 44, JUST 3 WEEKS BEFORE END OF THE WAR. VERY RARE TO SEE SUCH AN OLD SOLDIER, AND ESPECIALLY RARE TO SEE A SOLDIER WHO DIED SO CLOSE TO THE END OF THE WAR. So close to avoiding it, and death, yet so far.
Specifically: "the honorable man Wolfgang Birnbeck, forest worker, Infantryman in the Landsturm Infantry Landsbut Batallion, holder of the Iron Cross and the military honor cross, who heroically died in a field hospital in Weiler (Unterelsass), after 4 years faithful soldierly duty on Oct. 30, 1918, aged 44."
VERY CLEAR FULL PAGE OUTSIDE PHOTO of this man with unusual shouldered rifle, spike helmet, and all accouterments as shown. On the reverse is a very nice patriotic/military battlefield depiction.

Original card, MORE THAN 100 years old, and a nice face and story to a very young soldier who otherwise would be a forgotten statistic.
